Library Policy: Laptop Lending (2023)

 

 

We are pleased to offer a laptop lending program to help our students be successful in their time here at GHC.

Student Laptop Lending Policies 

Eligibility

  • Currently registered GHC students
  • The library dean or chair may exempt portions of the policy to accommodate GHC students in extraordinary circumstances.

Loan Terms

  • Laptops are available on a first come, first served basis for in-library use or a longer term loan not exceeding eight weeks.  
  • Items will be due immediately upon student withdrawal from all classes.
  • Laptops must be returned at the end of the loan. Renewals are at the discretion of library dean or chair, and must take place in person, pending no other requests or required maintenance.

Borrower Responsibilities

  • Laptops and laptop items may only be picked up by the student or faculty/staff who will be using the laptop and/or laptop items. Your GHC ID is required for check out.
  • Borrowers are responsible for each item loaned which may include; (four pieces) the laptop, charging cable, charging brick, and a laptop bag.
  • Borrowers are expected to keep items loaned in good condition. Upon returning the laptop, borrowers may be asked by GHC Library staff to wipe down all materials with provided electronic wipes to ensure safe and sanitary storage.  
  • Borrowers are expected to report any laptop damage, theft, or loss promptly to GHC IT. Laptops are property of the State of Georgia and may not be repaired by outside vendors. 
  • Borrowers are responsible for removing and storing elsewhere all personal data before returning the laptop. GHC Library is not responsible for personal data stored on laptops after they are returned. 
  • Borrowers are expected to use the technology responsibly. GHC Library is not responsible for borrower usage of laptops. The GHC Policy for acceptable use of information technology applies. 
  • Laptop borrowers must sign a borrower contract once a semester.

Failure to Return 

A registration hold will be placed on student institutional accounts for items not returned by the due date.  Any holds associated with the laptop lending program will be removed upon return of the undamaged items.

Failure to return a laptop promptly by the due date will result in one or more of the following:

  • Borrower will be locked out of the laptop immediately.
  • Borrower library privileges will be reduced to in-house use for the next 8-week period.
  • Borrower may be referred to collections.

Laptop Replacement Costs

  • Laptop: $1100
  • Charging Brick:$49
  • Charging Cable: $19
  • Laptop Bag: $30

Requesting a Laptop

Laptop requests will open on March 4, 2024 at 8:00am.

Option 1: Stop by your library and check one out immediately (while available).

Option 2:  Call your library to place a hold for pickup or for the next available:

  • 678-946-1007 for Paulding 

  • 678-872-4237 for Marietta  

  • 706-295-6318 for Floyd 

  • 678-972-8400 for Cartersville 

Option 3: Request online using the Laptop Requests and Contract form.

NOTES:

  • Paulding and Marietta students must call or go in person to request a laptop during the first week of class.
  • After the first week of class, if there are still laptops available, any student may request one from Floyd or Cartersville to be sent to another location for pickup.

Remember to check your student email for updates about the status of your request!
