Library Policy: Laptop Lending

Georgia Highlands College Libraries are pleased to offer a new laptop lending program.  These laptops are formatted for student use and are Zoom and Respondus Lockdown Browser compatible. The Dean of Libraries and College Testing may exempt portions of the policy to accommodate patrons in extraordinary circumstances.

Eligibility

  • Currently registered GHC students.
  • Faculty/Staff currently employed by GHC.

Policy

  • Priority for laptop lending goes to active GHC students.

  • Laptops are available on a first come, first served basis for in-library use or a longer term loan not exceeding the end of the current semester.  Due date will move to immediate upon student withdrawal from all classes, or upon faculty/staff separation from GHC.

  • A registration hold will be placed on student institutional accounts for items not returned by the due date.  Any holds associated with the laptop lending program will be removed upon return of the undamaged items.

  • Laptops and laptop items may only be picked up by the student or faculty/staff who will be using the laptop and/or laptop items. GHC ID is required for check out.

  • Borrowers are responsible for each item loaned which may include; (four pieces) the laptop, charging cable, charging brick, and a laptop bag.

  • Upon returning the laptop, borrowers may be asked by GHC Library staff to wipe down all lent materials with provided electronic wipes to ensure safe and sanitary storage.

  • All laptop borrowers will be liable for lost, damaged, or unreturned items including: laptop, charging cable, charging brick, and laptop bag. The laptop borrower acknowledges that there are four pieces with the laptop package and checking out the package stands as agreement that all four pieces have been received and are in good condition.

  • Laptop borrowers must sign a borrower contract each time a laptop is loaned. See form below. Library staff will either have the borrower access and sign the form upon pickup of the laptop package, or verify completion of the form prior to laptop package pickup.

  • GHC Library is not responsible for personal data stored on laptops after they are returned. Borrowers are responsible for removing and storing elsewhere all personal data before returning the laptop.

  • GHC Library is not responsible for borrower usage of laptops. Borrowers are expected to use the technology responsibly.

  • The GHC Policy for acceptable use of information technology is applicable: click here to view policy.
