APA 7 Resource Center: ChatGPT

ChatGPT (and other Generative AI Sites)

Special Notes:
  • You are citing an algorithm's output, so algorithm that creates the AI content is considered the author.
  • Do not use AI generated content unless given permission by your instructor. (See your syllabus for AI policies or check with your instructor.)
  • The version may be tricky to find. Sometimes it's part of the name Claude (Instant) or Claude (Classic) and sometimes the version number can be found in the app information when you download it.
  • Your in-text citation would be Author, date as usual. (OpenAI, 2023).
