How to Use This Guide

This information literacy content is broken up into four sessions, each with its own introduction page, and sub-pages with content for that session. I will be going over Sessions 1 and 2 i our first meeting, and will release sessions 3 and 4 for our second meeting. You can refer back to the content here as you progress through the class! Some of this may be content you've heard before, which is great! You can use the information as a review or simply when needed after you begin your research.

An Overview of the Sessions

Session 1: Types of sources, using keywords, and taking advantage of database tools like limiters
Session 2: The research process, plus an introduction to Gil-Find, our book catalog, and Galileo.
Session 3: Using Sources when paraphrasing and quoting, and developing in-text citations
Session 4: A review of APA citations and the reference list

Information Literacy Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Articulate the attributes of resources located in library database.
Articulate the attributes of internet search results.
Search the library catalog in order to locate an appropriate resource.
Differentiate between types of source materials (e.g., books, journal articles, websites, newspapers).
Build an effective search strategy including determining keywords.
Refine and narrow searches using built-in database limiters.
Cite sources correctly in the appropriate documentation style.
