ENGL 1102 - Johnston (Floyd) - Fall 2024

Additional Limits/Filters

Now that we've touched on the highlights of the basic search options, let's look at some other tools Galileo has to offer!

Click on All Filters (top left corner) and you'll see more options, including those common ones that are visible across the top.

Let's highlight the function of a few of these...

  1. Peer Reviewed: Need scholarly or peer reviewed articles? Check this box!
  2. Publication Date: If you need more date options that the three provided on the top bar, this allows you to do a custom date range!
  3. Geography: Looking for something published in the United States? This one is for you!
  4. Subject: Are you searching for sources within a particular subject? This filter will help!

Why is this important?

All research databases have the ability to filter results (just like online shopping). It allows you to take your search results and tailor them in more specific ways.

Across the top you'll see the most commonly used filters - Full Text, Peer Reviewed, Date Range, and Type of Source.

Limit by Source Type

You can limit by what type of source you're looking for!  Use the Source Type box and choose which one makes sense for your research project.

Limit by Date (Quickly!)

If you just need something within the last year, or the last five years, the All Time dropdown across the top allows a quick filter by date range!
