Description:
The task is to research how mathematics is used in, effects, and/or defines a career you are working toward or considering. This should include looking at regular/daily tasks you would perform, how mathematics plays a role in the development of the field your career is in, etc. The information is available to you, but you may have to do some research.
This is a formal essay. Spelling and grammar are under consideration and will factor into your score. You should avoid first and second person while writing this essay. You must properly cite all ideas that are paraphrased, even if it is not a direct quote: Failure to do so is plagiarism and will result in a 0 for this assignment. The below list of requirements represents the minimum: You may reasonable exceed them. Essays not meeting the requirements will receive a failing grade. When you see 4-5 pages, it specifically does not imply 3 pages and a couple of sentences on the 4th page: You must have a solid 4 pages minimum to be able to receive a passing grade.
Requirements:
• 4-5 pages
• 12 pt. Times New Roman
• Double-space
• Standard margins
• In-text citations and Works Cited in APA style; No abstract is expected, but a cover page is necessary. Cover page and Works Cited do not count toward the 4-5 pages of material. Information on APA style can be found at apastyle.org and through Perdue OWL.
• Minimum of 5 sources; no more than 40% of sources can be web sources. Articles found via GALILEO may be counted as print sources as long as they have been published in a print form at some point; GALILEO will often help you with the Works Cited entry in this case.
Hints and Help:
The GHC Librarians are very helpful ! If you cannot come into campus, you can choose to “Chat with a Librarian” via the Library page at the GHC website. Librarians usually answer within a couple minutes and are available whenever the library is open (up to 9 PM Monday – Thursday). The Tutorial Center at each campus is also available to assist and proofread your papers before submission.
