SESSION 2

 

STEP 1:

Types of Sources is up first. Before you start your research, it is important to know the difference between the kinds of sources you will find. Review the chart and make yourself familiar with them.

STEP 2:

Keywords of the foundation of good research. Understanding how keywords work and how to use them effectively will take you a long way to finding great sources!

STEP 3: 

Limiters work hand in hand with keywords. They are tools a database provides (sometimes called filters) that allow you to drill down within the search results after you do a keyword search.

INFORMATION LITERACY LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Session 2

Upon completion of information literacy instruction, students should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between types of source materials (e.g., books, journal articles, websites, newspapers). (4c)
  2. Build an effective search strategy including determining keywords. (3a)
  3. Refine and narrow Galileo searches using built-in database limiters. (1d)
