PSYC 1101 - Wilson (Floyd) - Fall 2021

Why is this important?

All research databases have the ability to filter results (just like online shopping). It allows you to take your search results and tailor them in more specific ways.

Adding Limits/Filters

Now that we've touched on the highlights of a basic search, let's look at some other tools Galileo has to offer!

You can narrow your results by adding limits (or filters) found under "Refine Results" in the box on the left.

A few important ones to point out:

  1. Scholarly/Peer Reviewed: Right at the top, under Limit To: Need scholarly or peer reviewed articles? Check this box!
  2. Limit by Date: Also under Limit To: It's an easy-to-use slider that's great for when you need an article published in a specific time frame.
  3. Limit by Type: Just need a newspaper article? Or maybe an ebook? This is what you use.

Limit by Subject

Want to narrow down to a specific subject? Look Lower down  in the "Refine Results" list on the left you'll see "Subject."  This is a great way to focus in on your specific topic.
