Boolean Search Terms

Use AND to narrow a search and retrieve records containing all of the words it separates, e.g. scream AND ghost will only find articles containing both of these words.

Use OR to broaden a search and retrieve records containing any of the words it separates, e.g. scream OR ghost will find articles that contain the word scream only, the word ghost only, or articles containing both of these words.

Use NOT to narrow a search and retrieve records that do not contain the term following it, e.g. scream NOT ghost will find records that contain the word scream, but not the word ghost.

Saving Search Results

If you want to save your search results, click  the "Share" button, located in the upper right side of your search results. Then, copy the permalink and the bottom of the dropdown menu. 

 

Limiters

In Galileo you can use the Limiters on the left side of the page to narrow your results.


      

In the "Limit To" section, you can select the "Full Text" button to ensure that Galileo will provide you access to the full article. Select "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals" to see sources that have been reviewed by scholars. Select "GHC GIL Catalog Only" if you want to see results that are listed only in GHC's library catalog (Gil Find).                                 


                   

In the "Limit by Type" section, you can can make selections to narrow you results by different types of sources. 

News: Sources from newspapers and news websites. ex. The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc. 

Magazines: sources from popular magazines. Ex. Time, The Atlantic, People, USA Today, etc. 

Academic Journals: sources from peer-reviewed academic journals (academic sources). ex. Community College Review, Social Behavior & Personality, Journal of English Studies etc. 

Reviews: reviews of other's work: ex. book review, movie review, etc. 

Trade Publications: sources created for a specific trade or profession. ex. Pharmaceutical Executive, Chief Learning Officer, School Library Journal.
